Race Description:
The Big Board Paddle is a 4km surfboard paddling race.
The race requires competitors to negotiate moderate (<4ft)
breaking waves on 2 occasions.
The course is 1-lap of a 4km triangle course set out with marker buoys
in front of the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
The start will be a standing beach start with the craft at the waters
edge.
The finish will be a 30m run up the beach.
GREAT OCEAN CRAFT CLASSIC
The Big Board Paddle is also a part of an overall Great Ocean Craft Classic
race, where each race category has a handicapped start time.
Winner of the Great Ocean craft Classic title will be the first craft
over the finish line.

3. Surf Life Saving Racing Malibu
8 km Craft Classic Race (2-laps) Categories:
4. Outrigger Canoe (OC-6)
5. Single Surf Ski/kayak
6. Double Surf Ski/kayak
7. Surf Boat
Competitors can enter and collect prizes in only ONE category. Once a
competitor has competed in the event, they cannot change categories.
Prizes/Medallions will be awarded to ALL RACE CATEGORIES (1st, 2nd &
3rd).

Race
Confirmation & Race Kit:
Check-in for Race Confirmation and pick up your Race Kit (including Race
Number) from 7.00am – 1:30pm on Saturday 7th February 2009 or 7:30pm
– 10:30pm on Friday 6th February 2009 at the Apollo Bay Surf Lifesaving
Club.
Race Rules:
• Competitors must follow the designated
set course, which is manned by water marshals and surf lifesavers.
• Competitors MUST be attached to their surfboard via a
leg rope approved by race officials.
• Competitors are only permitted to paddle
once. No multiple category entries are allowed.
• No extraneous aids are allowed. This includes,
but is not limited to fins and personal support teams.
• Wetsuits are permissible.
• Competitors will be required to have an
official mark and race number on their arm, which must remain on the individual
throughout the event. No competitor shall be recorded as a finisher, unless
carrying the official mark and number on their arm.
• Organisers reserve the right to accept,
reject and cancel entries.
• Protests must be made in writing and given
to the Race Director within fifteen minutes of the announcement of the
provisional results. All decisions of the Race Director will be final.
• Race officials shall have the ultimate
and final authority to remove a competitor from the race if the competitor
is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without the
risk of injury.
• Each entrant must sign the indemnity declaration
on the Entry Form before the event. If under 18, the parent or guardian
must sign. The organisers reserve the right to reject or cancel any entry
at any time.
